It is now focused on Kenya, where a network of Green World Schools teaches ecology and global citizenship, and the GWC co-manages the protection and restoration of the Rumuruti Forest. The GWC also does media projects that invite the public to ReGreen the World (their slogan). He won a 2011 International Green Award for Text TREE, a project he conceived and produced on a dozen jumbo screens in Times Square on Earth Day last April. He is now in discussions to move Text TREE into rock concerts, where the audience will plant trees via cellphone and be able to track their donations on an ever-growing Green World Map. He recently founded Green World Ventures, a social enterprise company focused on triple-bottom-line businesses in Kenya that restore soil and forests and provide jobs, training, and empowerment to village cooperatives.
Marc attended Yale University, and later helped found the graduate psychology department at Naropa University. As a hobby, he has played and recorded with the “literary rock” band the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose members include authors Amy Tan, Stephen King, and Maya Angelou.
